Tina Turner is preparing for her massive world tour, kicking off in Kansas October 1. The tour winds its way through North america and on to Europe finishing up in Manchester, UK 3rd April 2009. Adding a few extra shows, she now includes stops at American Airlines Center in Dallas (October 26), Toyota Center in Houston (October 27), Palace of Auburn Hills in Detroit (November 20) and Wachovia Spectrum in Philadelphia (November 29), as well as second nights at Philips Arena in Atlanta (November 10), Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. (November 24) and Air Canada Center in Toronto (December 13).
The upcoming tour, the singer’s first in eight years, will cover her entire four decade career and feature everything from early songs like “River Deep Mountain High,” “Proud Mary” and “Nutbush City Limits,” to ’80s smashes “Let’s Stay Together,” “What’s Love Got To Do With It” and “The Best,” to later tracks like “I Don’t Wanna Fight” and the theme from “Goldeneye.”
Turner said she’s looking forward to the journey.
“The girls and I are dancing every day, eight to 10 hours a day. It’s feeling super. I can’t wait to get started!”

After performing together at the 50th annual Grammy Awards, Beyonce’ called Tina Turner “the Queen”. And she is certainly known as the Queen of rock & roll or the Queen of R & B. And the Queen’s grand tour of 2008 just got grander. It is not billed as a farewell tour, but the concert-going public know when there is one show they do not want to miss.
As soon as the tour was announced anticipation began building and when tickets were released for the first show in Kansas City MO, they sold out within 2 minutes. If that is possible – sounds like a lot of jammed phone lines and ticket selling systems. But she is one popular lady. Extra concerts have been added to Kansas City, Boston, Toronto and Chicago, while new shows have been added in Hartford and Minneapolis.
This will be Tina Turner’s first tour since the record breaking and triumphant tour of 2000. It was in that year, following the success of her platinum-selling album Twenty Four Seven, she cemented herself as a stadium rock superstar. She is rightly regarded as the first genuine female stadium rock superstar, selling out 120 stadiums across the US and Europe, and grossing $80 million in the US alone. It was the biggest tour of that year and the biggest ever undertaken by a female artist, performing to more than 2 million people.
In 2008, with 24 shows scheduled, what can the fans expect? Tina is known for her high-energy action packed performances and a song list that extends back to the mid sixties. “River Deep, Mountain High”, “Proud Mary”, “What’s Love Got to do With it” and “Nutbush City Limits” are some of the favourites that the crowd can expect. But the greatest treat will be seeing the first diva of rock & roll in full flight, after an
extended absence. After this will we have to wait another eight years? This might be the last chance ever to see the great Tina in concert.
