Jersey Boys On Broadway – Taking All Before Them

Unless you have been living under a rock, you will have heard the most up to date musical on stage at Broadway, and touring the States is Jersey Boys. Critics have acclaimed the freshness and variety in the show. Charles Spencer from The Daily Telegraph said, “Overpaid, over-sexed and over here, it will, I believe be a little time before London asserts Bye Bye Baby ( Baby Goodbye ) to the PHENOMENAL Jersey Boys.” Benedict Nightingale from The Times declared, “Oh What a Night. There were times when I felt the performers were making even the Beatles sound rather low in musical texture.” Quentin Letts from The Daily Mail claimed, “I must say I completely enjoyed it. This is a show with amazing songs.” The prodution won the Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Musical. “It’s just too good to be true!” ( Clive Barnes, New York Post).

Jersey Boys is a musical that tells the story of how a bunch of difficult young men from Jersey became internationally renowned hit makers Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.

The musical opened on Broadway on Nov 6, 2005 at the August Wilson Theatre .The musical made its West End debut at London’s Prince Edward Theatre in February 2008. The Broadway production team followed on the the West End production.

jerseyboys3And there are major reasons why the Tony prize-winning musical “Jersey Boys” is in its 4th year on Broadway, it is just a shocking show, with happy clients returning to the pavement after a completely entertaining evening.

Brilliant interpretations of “Sherry,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry” and “Walk Like A Man” are not mechanically imitated but vibrantly thrilling on their lonesome.

The exciting musical accompaniment, from onstage guitars, drums and brass to the extra instruments off stage gives the show a certainly rousing power.

Another reason for Jersey Boys on Broadway success is its first class technical execution. The provoking set of metal balconies, stairs and catwalks conjures up the rustiness of the group’s New Jersey beginnings as well as the flash of recording studio and concert stage. Neon lounge signs, multiple video screens and silhouetted backdrops add snappily executed locale changes.

Nothing should keep Four Seasons fans from the show, and satisfaction is all but guaranteed. One note: there is a heavy dose of raw profanity, dependable to the place and place, but something to consider for the youngest attendees. Each member of the Four Seasons was, of course, incredibly talented in his own right. Frankie Valli was widely known for his ability to sing falsetto and Bob Gaudio was a smash before he even joined the group.
